Know there are more, life has just been a bit busier than usual.  May or may not be able to post in the coming few days.  May go old school and had write out thankfulness.

Exhausted! A Good Feeling!!

Yes, it feels good to be exhausted.  Proof we got stuff accomplished today.  Also proved by getting over 11,000 steps, with out thinking about it and not shopping a lot or being a tourist.

Things I am thankful for today, in random order:

  • both kids gone for a couple hours tonight
  • inexpensive mums
  • beginnings of fall decorating
  • impulse purchase
  • TV not on, at all, today
  • ACTs completed for oldest

Friday Already?

This week has been slow and fast.  A very real struggle between both kinds of moments.  Thank goodness for clocks, lists, and calendars.  Something might have gotten dropped.

It comes down to this for the day:
  • happy teenager
  • call back auditions going well
  • a husband who likes to cook
  • being hyper focused, yet flexible
  • friendships, yes again, it's been that kinda week
  • understanding that life happens
  • patience

Beauty in a Thursday

This butterfly bush almost died.
Managed to save it, winter it indoors,
and safely transpant outside.

Beauty!  Not the Vogue or GQ Magazine type either.  Genuine, from the soul, kind of beauty.  The kind that don't fade, but go brighter as time marches on.  Beauty in friendship, beauty in nature, beauty in routine.  That was the sum of today's experience.  Beauty in in all.
  • cool weather
  • getting back into a local co-op
  • son feeling better
  • walks with Kevin
  • butterfly bush growing well
  • connecting with new friends (lol!  another Jennifer)
What has caught your eye as beautiful?  Simple things, big things, little things?  Care to share?

Brain went into a Sound of Music song.  Want to guess?  Okay, givee itto you anyway, My Favorite Things!  It has just been a good day.  Here is what makes the list:

  • not being needed for something (gained 2 hours)
  • women's bible study starting again

  • general good feeling
  • catching up with friends

Birthday Sort of Day!

Hubby celebrated another year on this year!  Thankful he is here and we celebrated, even if it wasnt a huge thing.  Thankful he wasnt expecting a whole lot.

In addition to this, thankful for the following:

  • tag teaming getting the kids to where they need to be
  • sun and clouds
  • voice lessons for the younger one
  • easy dinners, like tacos
  • time to read

Labor Day Musing

Breaking away from my days of the week titles; change is a good thing, right?

Randomness of the day:  Kid wakes up later than usual, stumbles down stairs, and asks what is the plan for school.  Dude, it is a holiday!  He perked up and had a renewed sense of energy.  Oldest was able to attend a "Seniors Hike"; he was thankful to be able to go!  Husband was more than happy to grilled meat, for the second night in a row!

My joy and thankfulness goes more like this:
  • sunshine again today
  • bacon, cheeseburger for dinner
  • walks around the neighborhood
  • homemade vanilla ice cream
  • minimal driving
  • working on "Welcome" sign again

Sunday, September 3, 2017

I am starting to see a trend!  When I dont have a lot of chitter chatter, before my thankful list, I am plugging in the spday of the week.  There wasnt anything profound or aha moments today, just life and it was mostly enjoyable.
  • sushine
  • grilled steak and potatoes for dinner
  • errands, which equals hanging out with 2/3's of the guys in our house
  • getting most of need stuff for co-op (starts this Thursday)
  • geeting step count in, after about 10 days off

Saturday, September 2, 2017

Another rainy day, but still life is good!

  • weddings
  • chocolate chip cookies
  • date with hubby
  • safe travels
  • ease of rearranging schedule
What's good in your corner of the world?

Hello September!

Do you decorate for fall?  Is September 1 the day you start bring all things Fall out?  Or do you wait until September 20?

I haven't fully started decorating for fall.  Made a trip to the Dollar Tree the other day, as their artificial flowers and such are fairly descent sized and inexpensive.  Swapped out my light blue and lavender hydrangea for a fall orange color.  That is as far as I've gotten.  More on another day.

The fun and good for the day:
  • Kevin came home early, to beat Friday of Labor Day Weekend traffic
  • new fitbit came in the mail
  • temps hovered around 65 degrees today
  • bought a Take & Bake for dinner (easy Friday Pizza)
  • lots of vegging on a dreary day
  • fall colored hydrangea

August is a Wrap!

and brings the mental end of summer.  All in all, not a bad month; ups and downs; good with the bad.  Which brings me to a quick list for the last day.
  1. air conditioning (just warm enough that I appreciate it, in the house and van)
  2. free hair cut
  3. cheesy tomato tortollini
  4. getting caught up on Sky Scarf
  5. catching up with friends
Here's a link to the Cheesy Tortelinni.  We'll be having it again!

With that, I can say:

Goodbye August

What does that mean for you?  Is it just sleep?  Or is it taking a break from physical activity?

Having a day of rest today! Woke up feeling horrible and easily winded.  Not a full fledged cold, thankfully.  A list so far today would be:
  • guys pitching in to help clean up
  • not a whole lot on schedule
  • planning ahead on meals
  • time to kick back
  • PBS cooking shows
  • finishing up the month of July on my Sky Scarf

  • another cool morning
  • shopping alone, at a favorite store
  • picking up library books for a co-op class
  • trying a skillet chocolate chip cookie recipe ~ turned out fairly well
  • trip to the butcher ~ no clue  why it makes me happy but it does
  • pondering fall decorations

    Sunshine, Breezes, & Hobbit

    photo from Trip Advisor
No ground breaking statements to open up today's list.  Just the beauty of the day, it being Friday, a good night sleep.  Know I should be moving and getting things accomplished.  Sitting and pondering sure has been nice though.  Nothing deep, just being; savoring the moment.

Do you count your joyful things?  Any you want to share?
    • sunshine
    • sound of crickets
    • chapter in "The Hobbit"
    • joy of Friday
    • Faith Hill station on Pandora
    • windows open for hours
    • pizza
It's still early afternoon here.  May publish and come back if I think of more!  Either way, have a great afternoon.

    Big Exhale!

    Moon in our back yard!
That started the day.  Woke up from an anxiety inducing dream, with both heart rate and blood pressure racing, almost hyperventilating.  When I realized it was a dream, and not reality, at least my brain was quick to calm down.  Other things calmed, too, reasonably quick.  Large scale anxiety has been something I have been dealing with, for a few years now and a main reason I started this blog.  Not only did I need the medication for my brain and exercise to work off the fight or flight gitters, I needed something tangible, to visibly see the good, the beauty, the joy in life.

Neglecting various aspects, has not been good for me.  Bare with me, as I work to get back into a healthy routine.

    The quick, thankful updates:

    • All high-school year is going well so far.  Oldest is a senior while youngest is a freshman.
    • Made it through the purchase of a new car without to much stress (finances are a trigger for me).
    • Made it through the busiest summer yet!
    • Son recieved accomodations for ACT's, the first time around.
    • Working on getting caught up on my sky scarf.  Earlier this month, tore it almost completely out because the side I carry up the extra yarn looked horrible.  I am now back into July.
    • Boys are learning life skills around the house.  Will miss this terribly when they are gone!
    • Solar Eclipse, the other day was cool.  Even got to borrow glasses from neighbors.
There is way more I could type about, but this is all I can think of easily.  Will be back, hopefully on my computer, to update the layout and other thinfs around here.

For now, hope your day is joyful!

    • favorite shows were not reruns

    Twenty Turns Around the Sun

Today, Kevin and I celebrated 20 years of mairrage.  Rather low key!  No fancy meals or flowers or getting all "dolled up"!  He worked from home, as he usually does on Tuesdays; I attended to some chores; kept boys focused on school; we ate chocolate; leftovers for lunch.  Low key!

Suppose I'd been "milking" the anniversary for days.  Out for coffee one day, dinner out when it was convinient, walks here and there, trip to Occoquan (more for me than him).  Still a nice day, despite the rain.  That didn't even make the day gray.  20 years ago, it rained all day, it seemed.  The gray today, reminded me of 1997.  LOL!  No trip to 7/11 for cold drinks, in the tuxedo and dress though.  That was funny!

Thankfulness, in all seriousness, is a touch easier today:
    • memories shared
    • chocolate, both good and average
    • gifts
    • cold brew coffee filter
    • homemade valentines cards
    • rain
    • easy feeling day
    • Kevin's "getting the small stuff done" drive
    • chocolate cake, just to have cake
Well shucks, can't find the photos I wanted.  Maybe they'll get added on another date.

    Can't Help It!

Thinking of tomorrow.  Remembering twenty years of marriage!  Glossing over today; stay focused, be present, see the good in the moment.
    • very windy day, with no trees falling in our area
    • good fire going most of the day
    • events being canceled
    • remembering to drink water
    • dinner out with Kevin, for our anniversary
    • trip to Trader Joes

    Blogging Thankfulness

Coming here to blog my thankfulness is getting harder and harder.  Not so much that I am not trying to be mindful of it all, it is becoming one more thing to check off ~done, complete, etc.  Probably need to leave my lovely planner open, to make it easier to note the joyful and lovely things.  It has space for that each and every day.  Hopefully tomorrow!

How do you note your thankful things?  Do you have lists and journals all over the place?  Is it one book?  A planner? A space on the WWW?

Today has been an average day.  No one thing that was overwhelming great or bad!  It goes something like this:
    • meatloaf for dinner - long overdue
    • Cape Cod Potatoe chips - one of the best things out there
    • Charlie Brown Valentine Special, recorded a few days ago
    • other recorded shows, too
    • time to sit

    Saturday, February 11, 2017

What are Saturdays like for you? Sports, cartoons, cleaning, grilling, yard work, errands!  That seems to sum up saturdays of my youth and today as well!

Today wasn't much different.  Divide and conquer for Kevin and me. We ended the day with a date, so that was good!  Here's the rest:

    • Great Date Night at church
    • oddly enough, cleaning the kitchen
    • getting caught up on a few things
Another short  list today and that's okay.

    Friday, February 10, 2017

    A Day Finished

and thankfully so.  Hard days happen and getting through them feels like a blessing.  Thankful for moments seeing friends who get it, who understand the journey.  Tomorrow is a new day!
    • able to get kids where they need to be
    • finding a Redbox movie we wanted to see
    • short moments to sit in front of the fire

    Where Did Yesterday Go?

Wowzers!  70 degrees and sunshine yesterday.  Cloudy, windy, and cold today.  Snow predicted didn't come till much later than anticipated, but still came in.  So many good things today, here it goes:
    • only 7 more weeks, in braces, for Ian
    • hearing "It's snowing"
    • open mouth, waiting for snowflakes
    • date with Kevin
    • still reaching 10,000, after long day
    • driving snow
    • Owl Moon

     A Quilted Lamp Shade

In contrast to the Stain Glass Shade
on the other side of the desk.

Outdoor reading, after all it's 70 degrees.

    Where there was one yesterday,
    two are there today.
    • unseasonably warm weather
    • time to absorb the sunshine
    • contrasting lampshades
    • no driving today

    Warmth, Messiness, A Beautiful Life

It was a day of noise, of messiness, of 70 degree weather, of windows open, of Spring in the air, of noise, of silence.  All summed up, a day of beauty.  A hard day, definitely; a day of learning, of getting it done, of letting it go, yet still beautiful.

Saw glimmers of what it would be like having a larger family, at least for a few hours.  Saw the personalities in children and "rolled" with each unique one.  Thankfulness throughout the day.  Reminders of how quickly time flies; how moments drag on.  Greatful for bedtimes and the hope of doing it al again tomorrow.
    • first round of coffee
    • a singular clover, reaching for sunshine
    • laughter
    • science experiments
    • younger being a gracious host
    • large enough house to "hid" from the craziness
     Singular Clover

    As messy as Christmas morning!

    Warm Weather . . . .

while waiting for snow.  Seen the possiblity for Winter weather on Thursday!  Truly hope it is for "real"!  We are due and we are ready.  In the mean time, has been nice to air out the house, get the plants out on the deck for a bit of time, dog sunning outside.
    • warm weather
    • slow morning
    • supplies for crafting magnets
    • candles, both real (soy based) and battery operated
    • overall good feeling all day long
    • pulling out the duct tape
Pink Duct Tape  to mend a school folder.
Yes, it might be cheapr to use new one, but the
tape adds a pop of color!

Plant in green pot is a butterfly bush I saved and bringing
back to life.  Hope it will grow rather large over the spring and summer.
In the plan pot are clover and in the blue is my Rosemary bush.

    Superbowl Sunday

Our house was rather laid back.  How about yours?  The game sure did seem to be played in halves.  The first to the Falcons, the second the Patriots.  Pats also played better in overtime.

Besides football, what was good?  Mine would be:
    • mason jars, for candy storing
    • slow day
    • knitting more on infinity scarf
    • junk food for dinner
    • hugs and kisses to share

    Saturday, February 4, 2017

    Craziness of Saturday

Nothing like trying to get life done, when feeling a bit tired!  It got done.  We managed.  We had time to put our feet up.

    • steak for dinner
    • cool looking sunshine through the woods
    • getting a few things done outside
    • Redbox - inexpensive movies

    Fridays = Fundays

or so it should be!  Felt like a lot of basics and not a lot of fun.  Struggling to find the joy today.  Here it goes though:

    • cleaning a portion of a cabinet shelf (really it counts as joy for me!)
    • pizza crust turned out well tinight
    • hitting step goal and then some
    • TV watching night
    • Charlotte feeling better

    Yum! Fried Chicken

Generally speaking, I don't make fried chicken, all that often.  The guys will attest to that.  One wanted chicken for dinner, the others suggested chicken nuggets.  Pondering how to cook and what to go with it, fried chicken nuggets and french fries became the menu for the evening.  Usually, these go quickly around these parts and more are desired.  Tonight, however,  I cooked/fried for a small army and a not hungry, tiny family showed up.  Leftovers for a meal that isn't quite as good the second day.  Oh well!

Before you ask, I have no recipe for the breading.  It is usually some of this and that, in unknown proportions.  This batch started with cornflakes and parmesan (from a different chicken recipe) and I added various things from recipes I've read or seen made on a cooking show.  Sure was good though!

    Oh Yum!!!

As for the good and joyful today:
    • fried chicken (obviously)
    • okay vet check for our sick pup
    • hard life lessons for one child
    • kid helping with dinner
    • early bedtime

    Another First!

First day of the month that is.  It felt like a long one too.  It is all good though!

    • first day of rehearsal for, "Into the Woods, Jr."
    • first parent monitor duty complete
    • surviving a busy day

    January - Months End

Many ideas  run through my head, for a months end post.  Things accomplished, books read, things made, and on it would go.  This particular January feels like I have just been getting a handle on 2017.  Mentally taking notes on loose goals, things I'd like to do or see, books I'd like to read, where I'd like to see the boys education to be.  Nothing of great consequence to note.

Even so, the good things from today would be:
    • the moon looking like a smile
    • finishing the first month of my sky scarf
    • decaf coffee, so I can still sleep tonight
    • a quiet house
    • time to just be

    Monday, January 30, 2017

    Snow! And it was pretty!

We got measurable snow overnight; albeit, not a whole lot, couple inches or so.  Out the back of our house it looked beautiful.  The house backs up to acres of park land.  At times, would be nice if it were our land, but other times it is nice that it belongs to someone else.
    • measurable snow
    • wood brought it for a fire
    • clear roads
    • ideas for warm dinner
    • thankful for days end
     Backyard, early morning.

     Just before a good shake.

     The colors are cool looking!

    This was called, "Melty Dog".
With a good fire going, room can get well above
    80 degrees.

    Sunday, January 29, 2017

    Just a few more days . . .

    • everyone happy I am home
    • a dog, estatic, to see me
    • trips out, just to be with Kevin
    • many recorded shows to get caught up on

    Another Photo Kind of Day

Been a pretty good day.  Another windy day, but not as bad as a few days ago.  Getting out for a walk kind of day.  Sunshine, and shorts, and sunglasses, and hanging out on the deck sort of day.

Much to be thankful for, but here's the highlights:
    • pizza on Thursday, not Friday
    • walk with the boys
    • enjoying the sunshine on our faces
    • getting caught up in knitting
    • comments like, "It's a Pac-Man Pizza"
    Pac-Man Pizza
    First Pizza got demolished quickly.
Didn't take long for second to be gotten into.

Sky scarf through today.  Finally figuring out how to
bring yarn up the side; haven't decided if I want to start
over again.  There are some messy spots, on the right,
about a quarter of the way up.

    Another Beautiful Day

It's been another great day of sunshine!  Lots of miscellaneous things to be thankful for.
    • tree that fell, didn't cause to much damage
    • dog not taking advantage of weak spot in fence
    • time outside
    • mac & cheese and keilbasa
    • overall, just the feeling of a good day

    What is blue and yellow?

The sky!!!!!!!!!!  At least for a portion of the day.  It did get gray during the middle of the afternoon but cleared up to show off a beautiful sunset.  Felt good to see the sky.

    Thanksgivingn for the day:
    • sunshine
    • longer walk with Charlotte
    • naps
    • good dinner
    • beautiful sunset

Know I promised the sky scarf today.  I wasn't able to fully catch up and decided to rip it out and start again.  Weaving the yarn, up the side, is a new skill for me and I'm trying to get it looking nice.  Soon is all I can promise at this point.

    A Blustery Day!

A blustery and rainy day.  Windy enough to move the outside furniture or knock them over.  We survived.  Looked forward to around dinner time when we start closing up the curtains for the day; wanted an end to the cold, rain, and dark.
    • wind moving the storm away
    • socks
    • music
    • falling asleep to Screwtape Letters
    • new recipe for dinner
    • working on sky scarf
Maybe tomorrow I'll have a progress photo of the scarf!  I can dare to dream.

As a total side note, the slowness of the day and lack of weekly meal planning meant last minute thawing of meat.  Have found that once the meat is a little thawed, it can be cut down into smaller chunks, which cooks and breaks up easily.  Cooking save & kitchen hack!

    Sunday, January 22, 2017

    Odd Combinations

that was today!  No particular order, or rhyme, or reason.  Just a day to be thankful for.
    • ice cream and cake for dinner
    • Sherlock Holmes
    • perfect grilled cheese
    • short nap on the couch
    • hitting over 10,000 steps for 5th day in a row

    Saturday, January 21, 2017

    • bacon with breakfast

    Fourteen Trips Around the Sun

That is what was celebrated today!  Our Ian turned 14 today.  It was a celebration all day long, with food, laughter, and fun.  Much joy to be shared.  Here are just a few of the things that brought smiles:
    • warm, orange glow from the fireplace
    • chocolate croissants for breakfast
    • car rides with the birthday gentleman
    • sprinkles
    • rainbow cakes
    Trader Joe's Chocolate Croissants

    Cakes before baking

Vanilla frosting and loads of sprinkles!

    What a laugh!

Inside of the cake!  Colors don't show
    as well as I'd like.

    Errand Sort of Day

Lots of short errands run today.  Some had to be run individually; a bunch, thankfully, were done in one trip.
    • gas in the van
    • time with boys, individually
    • 3 games of Uno, each of us won a game
    • wine delivery
    • talking about tomorrow

    Signs of Spring

January throws a surprise.  Time to shake of the long pants, thick socks, and heavy jackets.  Today was all about a lovely and unexpected day.
    • list making
    • sweet sunshine
    • 56 degrees outside
    • daffodils poking through, the hope of Spring
    • windows open
    • smell of fresh air

    Tuesday, Tuesday

another day of rain, and blankets, and naps, and coffee, and more coffee.  Not even worried about what the rainiest month on record is, it's still a good day.  Here's todays take:

    • heat
    • blankets
    • clay pots
    • empty schedules

    Beautiful Slowness

That was today, from my take.  Could be considered quite busy from family members.

The afternoon calendar wide open, nothing pressing, no special meals planned.
    • blue skies today ~ way to many gray this year
    • time to hang out
    • kid playing in the woods
    • another kid getting help with school
    • leftover ice cream cake
    • Green Bay Packers beating Dallas Cowboys
I'm behind on my sky scarf!  Been noting the sky but the yarn was getting tangled pretty bad, so I ripped out the first week and have not caught up with the knitting.  Hope to get two weeks knit before the endo of this week.

    Wintery Saturdays

Second Saturday of 2017!  We were due for more winter weather today, again, in the form of freezing rain and it making the roads slick.  Thank goodness it passed us by.  Something to be thankful for.  To appreciate.  Still did have activities canceled, but that allowed more time at home.  Another blessing!

    Counting it all Joy:
    • day to clean
    • being called a superhero for cooking
    • homemade applesauce
    • an Eagle Court of Honor

    Celebrations and Milestones

Our oldest turned 17 today; we took the time to celebrate him.  Lots and lots of food.  A trip to the Lego Store.  A trip to 5 Guys.  A trip to Chick-fil-A.  To top it all off mozerella sticks and pizza for dinner and an oreo ice cream cake for dessert.  Can't forget about the chocolate croissants for breakfast.

Tones of food today.  To much food.

He enjoyed the day though.  Birthday wishes through several social media venues, a birthday card in the mail, being sung to to (wheather he wanted it or not).

    The gratitude for the day:
    • 17 years of life
    • wonderful young man
    • more legos
    • time with son
    • time to relax
    • cupcakes

    Another Day!

Has come and gone!  Suppose it could be called a good day.  A lot of recipe reading, questions, suggestions, sleeping, school, and just life type stuff.  Not sure why it seems so hard to come up with a gratitude list;  we really do lead a pretty good life.

Here's my take on the day:
    • 60 + degree weather
    • able to have windows open for a spell
    • a little container gardening, done on the deck
    • boys confidence in my cake building capabilities
    • warm (ish) walk, with the dog, after sunset

    Midweek, already?

The week feels quick!  The week also feels incredibly slow.  Spuradic back pain will do that.  The moments you feel okay go quickly; then the intense pain comes back and life slows down to a snails pace.  Such a mix of feelings and sensations!

Wednesday, the 11th of January comes to a close though.  Life is still good.  Life is sleepy at this point.  A yearning for deep rest, good rest, restorative rest.  Before sleep fully overtakes me, here's my list:
    • moments of blue
    • relief from pain
    • snuggles with the dog
    • friends who get the need for pj days
    • pistachios

    Finding the Joy

Another gray day.  Nothing like my "sky scarf" to make me more aware of how many gray days we've had.  C'est la vie!!

Maybe early in the day, but gratitude has come easily today.  May come back to add more later.  For today, about 11 AM, it goes like this:
    • thankful we live close to the firestation, just in case
    • remembering good conversations
    • feeling greatful dispite the gray
    • good memories flooding my brain
    • warmth
    • permanent Farmers Market sign ~ thoughts of spring and summer

Not Sure How to Title . . .

Felt like a long day!  Thankful there was some blue, because overall, it felt kinda gray both visually and emotionally.  Still there was good!
    • the blue and gray sky
    • getting stuff done
    • completing at least one task I really didn't want to
    • dinner together
    • finding versus I'd been meaning to look up
Maybe short, but made it to five.  It's kind of a goal, now, with new planner and space for Daily Gratitude.

    See you tomorrow.

    Nothing Catchy Today!

If writing titles to draw the reader was hard, today feels worse.  Thankfully, I am not necessarily trying to win anyone over with my writing ability.  Not trying to earn a living by drawing you in or click on affiliated links.

Another beautiful day for the books.  Although VERY frigid, single digit/low teens frigid, it was a gorgeous day.  As the sun came up, through the trees, it was a vibrant orange; warm, glowing, inviting.  There was also the wind, gusting and making it feel colder than the already low numbers.  Sitting on the warm side of the window, it was wonderful to watch.

    The joy of the day:
    • bible classes starting again
    • sunshine for miles
    • time with extended family
    • brief chats with friends
    • general feeling of JOY

    Day of Verbs!

Today closed with the first significant snow!  Not a whole lot, but enought to cancel events, start up the woodstove, get out the boots, and sweep the snow away.  We got maybe an inch!  Because of it, my thankfulness includes:
    • napping
    • knitting
    • reading
    • warm fire
    • sweeping snow
See all the verbs!!!  snicker, snicker

Moving on!!  I'd been pondering a Sky Scarf for awhile.  This year is the year it gets worked on!  With January 1st on a Sunday, it is working out nicely for my weird brain.  There are just times order is a good and wonderful thing.  Anyway, this week has been a combination of a lot of gray days, gray and blue, snow and blue, making the scarf quite colorful already.  Here are a couple photos:

The colors don't show up as well as I'd like,
but it is coming together nicely.

Had been hoping to use five colors,
but seeing how these three are coming together
may just leave it these.  A viragated blue, gray, and white.

That's my day, verbs and all.  Catch 'ya tomorrow!
